It has its archaeological assets too. There are rock paintings, said to be dating back to thousands of years, in the caves of Mahadeo hills. Pachmarhi was discovered in 1857 by a Bengali lancer. The British developed it as a hill resort. The location has been named Priyadarshini Point.
